You don’t have to become the person everyone else expects. You can become the person who feels the most like you.

Being a teenage girl in today’s world can feel a little like living inside a constant group chat where everyone is talking at the same time.

Friends have opinions.
Teachers have opinions.
Parents have opinions.
And the internet? The internet has a lot of opinions.

What you should wear.
What your personality should be like.
What grades you should get.
Who you should be friends with.
What your future should look like.

Sometimes it gets so loud that you stop asking yourself the most important question of all:

What do I actually want?

Learning how to trust your own voice is one of the most important skills you’ll ever develop. It’s also one of the hardest — especially when you’re still figuring out who you are.

So today’s Big Sister File is about something we wish we understood earlier:

How to trust yourself — even when everyone else seems to have an opinion about your life.

🎧 Everyone Sounds Confident — Even When They’re Not

Here’s one of the biggest secrets about growing up:

Most people are figuring things out as they go.

The girl at school who seems super confident? She’s still learning.
The friend who gives advice about everything? Also learning.
Even adults who look like they have everything together sometimes feel unsure.

Confidence doesn’t always mean someone is right.

Sometimes it just means they’re comfortable saying what they think.

And when you’re younger, it can be easy to assume that the loudest voice in the room must be the most correct one.

But life doesn’t work like that.

Just because someone has a strong opinion about what you should do doesn’t mean they understand your life, your goals, or your feelings.

Their opinion might come from their own experiences — which can be helpful. But it doesn’t automatically make it the right answer for you.

🌸 Your Life Isn’t a Group Project

In school, group projects make sense. Everyone shares ideas and works together.

But your life isn’t a group project.

It can sometimes feel like everyone gets a vote in your choices:

What subjects you take.
What sport you play.
How you dress.
Who you spend time with.
What your hobbies are.
What your future should look like.

Advice can be useful — and listening to people who care about you is important.

But there’s a difference between listening to advice and letting other people control your decisions.

At the end of the day:

You’re the one waking up every morning as you.
You’re the one living through your days.
You’re the one building your future.

Which means your voice matters more than you might realise.
